Just Say No to Vandalism
This program seeks to raise awareness of problems related to vandalism to the young people. We explain them what vandalism is, why harm is caused to others and how this problem can be prevented.
Let’s Invite Our Youth at the Policemen’s Work!
This program is aimed at inviting 9th grade students to spend a full day with a policeman in order to show them police work.
Ride-Along
This program is an introduction for 12th grade students interested by police- or related sector after high school. This program allows them to spend one or several shifts with a patrol officer to become acquainted with various tasks involved in the policeman occupation.
Safe Youth
This program seeks to teach children to follow some safety rules by using radar as a second nature to identify and avoid dangerous situations. These rules apply between school and home, that is, in the streets, parks and shopping centres and on railway tracks.
Halloween
This program is aimed at making young people aware of the dangers related to candy collection on Halloween Day.
Pedestrian Crossings
This program seeks to teach kindergarten children to stop at crossroads or on the sides of streets, to look, to listen, and to stretch out their arm before crossing.
Safe Cycling
Since most of the young people have a bike, this program teaches them to follow road safety codes while inciting them to use appropriate safety equipment.
Bus Safety
This course is aimed at providing children with guidelines to ensure their safety before bus arrival, during transportation and when they leave the bus.
Substance Abuse
Several programs are prepared for different age groups, including one that is aimed at making young people aware of the abuse of substances, such as drugs, alcohol and inhalants.
Better information will help young people make better choices concerning their health and well-being.
Violence: “Not Me”
This program is given to teenagers to help them be aware of violence in their relationships. The ultimate goal is to help them break off or prevent the cycle of violence and to give them simple techniques as to how to maintain healthy relations.
COMMUNITY
Child Care Course
This training is given to young teenagers who want to baby-sit. Several stakeholders including policemen, firefighters, social workers and nurses, are involved that prepare them to be more responsible with the children they baby-sit and to better respond to dangers.
North-Western Crime Prevention Stakeholder Committee
This group involves various community stakeholders whose mission is to target and examine problems affecting the community and to provide action plans with the use of provincial financial resources.
Problem Solving
Two officers have been assigned to this task. Their role is to detect and examine existing specific problems and to address these issues for definitive solutions.
Vehicle Thefts (pending)
Statistics have shown an increasing number of vehicle thefts in recent years. This program will be geared to give vehicle owners certain preventive measures for reducing the risk of theft.
Cycling Safety Patrol
A summer program involving two (2) policemen of the community section and four (4) students has been put together to ensure security and visibility in the parks, as well as on the biking trails and municipal streets. The program should help prevent or reduce vandalism and other mischief that might be committed. It also ensures that municipal, provincial and federal laws are applied.
Say No to Drinking and Driving
This program is aimed at raising the level of awareness of drinking and driving, a problem which is still prevalent in our society. The consequences of driving a motor vehicle while impaired and the laws pertaining to drunk driving are explained.
Buckle Up!
This program is aimed at raising awareness among young and older people as to the importance of buckling up at all times while driving.
Information Booths
This undertaking consists in setting up information booths in various trade fairs and local exhibitions to provide answers to public queries. Information sessions and pamphlet distribution explaining safety laws, rules and tips to follow on how to avoid any unfortunate situation are also provided at the booths.
Prevention Committee – Education
Two (2) police officers of the community section sit on this committee which was formed to help solve some problems occurring in the locality. Both officers are implicated organizationally to provide professional guidance and assistance.

PROGRAMS FOR ELDERLY PEOPLE
Ageing Freely and Safely
This program is aimed at advising elderly people on how to avert problems, such as mistreatment, control of medicaments, handling of crises, and crime and injury prevention.
Hang Up! Phone Fraud Is Criminal!
This program mainly applies to elderly people, who are the most likely to be abused by phone defrauders. It is aimed at giving them information, tools and advice to prevent this type of crime.
911 – Medical Information
This program has been developed to inform mainly elderly people and others who are on medication when calling about emergency services. It ensures that there is immediate assistance when an emergency call is made regarding medication.
BUSINESSES AND COMPANIES
How to Protect Your Commercial Enterprise
This program is aimed at informing all business or company owners and their employees about the practice to follow during an armed robbery, a break-and-entry, or a credit card fraud. It also includes ways and means on how to prevent shoplifting, theft by employees, and the cashing of forged cheques.
